The thoughts and musings of coming to terms with turning 50 and what I want to be when I grow up.

Now that the weekend is over, I can go to work and rest...

Dateline - Milford, CT - Just in case you are wondering, Milford is about an hour south of Hartford, CT. But already, I digress...

This was a mixed bag weekend. Julie and her girlfriends were scheduled to go to Sedona, AZ for a week on Saturday. But the worst ice storm in 4-5 years came through the Southeast and pretty much brought everything and everyone to a halt.

The calls started coming in on Friday afternoon. And in a round-about way, since I am the road warrior, folks were looking for my guidance about what to do.

  • Are our flights cancelled? (Yes...some had been rescheduled. Others not...more on that later)
  • What about the rental cars? (If you get there the same day, you should be ok. If you are going to get there on a different day, call the rental company)
  • Should we stay in Atlanta close to the airport on Friday night? (OK, this was one I didn't have to answer, just use hotel points if they decided to stay so they could have a free room)
  • Of the flights that weren't rescheduled, can you find out what the options are? (Since you ARE the very, very frequent flyer and have an exclsuive number to call and we can't get through, how about you calling the airlines?)

Those were just a few of the myriad of questions/decisions that came my way up to the time they left for the airport. (Some stayed in Atlanta on Friday, some didn't)

But as long as my day was, there's was even longer. The flight was originally going to get out at 11 AM Saturday, but because of the ice storm, was cancelled on Friday afternoon. After much discussion, I convinced those that hadn't been rescheduled to take the 5:45 PM Saturday vs. the offered 8:30 AM Saturday flight. That being said, the 5:45 didn't leave Atlanta till 2 AM Sunday morning.

Since the residual of the ice storm lingered through Sunday and church was cancelled, I decided to get my Winter Blast Cd burning done. I have to say that I haven't enjoyed being by myself in a long, long time. I listened to some CD's that I had seen the artists in person, bought their CD's and had never opened them. I really rekindled my musical interest and have decided that I am going to do this more often.

I also had the pleasure?? of cleaning the house on Sunday. Why clean the house if no one is home you ask? Well, we have a woman and her child come over daily to feed and play with our two cats AJ and Freeway. And I didn't want the house to look like the hurricaine called Julie had left it.

Monday was good in two ways. I stopped by a sometime client to make a couple hundred bucks and then jumped on a plane to come here. I want to buy Julie one of those revolving LCD picture frames for Valentines Day and the money will help to offset the cost. For whatever reason, all the ones I have seen are in the $300 range. With the "picture frame" (if that is what you would call it) you can take scanned photos and it will shuffle them on a continual basis. I thought I would take some photos of me and of the kittys and give it to my honey for V-Day.

But if anyone of you has a good or better yet, a great idea, please let me know.

TTFN.
